Plastic Waste and Fashion

I fell in love with the design of the “Parley” ultraboost when Adidas first announced this idea they are going for. The simplistic design, and colour they went for really sends a message out there to notify people of the issue of plastic waste in the ocean. The “sporty” look of the shoes along with the blue coloured prime knit, makes it appealing to consumers from all ages and genders.

Who is “Parley”

Parley is a company that raises awareness of ocean life and sea animals, and of course with the increase waste in the ocean, the company became more relevant than ever. Thus, they decided to seek help from other companies and try to explore of ideas to tackle this issue.

Collaboration!

It’s amazing how a sportswear company can revolutionize the products we use today.  Adidas is one of the few sportswear companies that is tackling the plastic waste issue in the ocean, by utilizing plastic waste found in the ocean and using them as knit material for the products they sell, it reduces their carbon footprints and promotes the idea of reusing and recycling. On November 2017, Adidas uses their newest technology onto their latest running shoes and announced a new line of a revolutionary product called the “parley ultraboost. By the end of 2017, they have sold over 1 million pairs, and each pairs requires 11 plastic water bottles to make.

Community Response ?

  • This is amazing, as it shows the positive support the community provides through the high demand of the shoes they are selling. This emphasizes the issue that the company is trying to tackle against, by utilizing waste and turning them into products that consumers can use for their daily needs. Later on, the company would release new versions of the shoes, such as the “Parley” ultra boost 2.0 and etc. All in all, other fashion companies needs to utilize their creativity skills, and help reduce the carbon footprint by using wastes and turning them into products that fits individuals needs.

  1. I really enjoyed your informative article on this new Adidas release. Your blog post was well divided and easy for the reader to digest. I’d love to hear more of these types of environmental collaborations from huge brands like Adidas taking a positive stance on climate change and wildlife issues. I wish your article was longer and maybe you could go into more detail on each of the topics? Or other brands like Adidas that the reader should support who are making environmentally friendly products. Overall, this post was really interesting and well done, yay!
